Hey

Can anyone tell me what the difference is between a xr3i and a RS turbo cylinder head?

Cheers

I don't think theres much difference. Valve seats are hardened on turbo engine. Also think exhuast valves are larger diameter. Obviously cams are different also which includes the valve springs having a higher rate.

Series 1 heads had sodium-filled valves, but nothing else. The springs are the same rate, and the cam is specific for turbocharged applications. IF you put a turbocharged-spec cam in a N/A engine, it will be down on power due to the overlaps.

So I can put an xr head on a turbo bottom end if I swap the cam?

What year XR3i?

They changed cylinder heads around 1986(ish).

Early heads have a dished chamber, late ones have a big "V" built in with much smaller exhaust valves and would be no good for turbocharging.

It's a efi 89 xr3i

Not interchangeable. The injection system is different for a start, before you go near anything else.
