Guest Cooderkey Posted February 20, 2012 Share Posted February 20, 2012 (edited) I was quoted £85.00 plus VAT from the local Ford Distributorship for this seal. This quote was given on or about the first week in Feb 2012. My Original seal was removed when I was getting the paintwork done in various places, including this edge where the roof rises to meet the seal. They did a great job but the guy who refitted the seal decided, with all good intentions, to cover the joint with Vaseline, before pressing it back into position. I queried why he'd done this, and he said he thought it would help in case there was any more water ingress. In fact the problem he caused was that the seal just kept falling off like butter in a warm pan. I removed the seal and completely cleaned it of all the loose Vaseline, and then wiped it spotless with a can of Ronson Lighter Fuel, which is better than turps, white spirit or petrol. Then I layed the seal out on the bench, on an old blanket nice and flat, covered it over with a duster, and very carefully worked from end to end, tapping it gently with a mallet to close the seal tight together. I refitted it and it gave me no more trouble, BUT, I just bought one from eBay for six quid in case I need a back up. Cheers, Burt. Guest jimmy b Posted February 21, 2013 Share Posted February 21, 2013 evening gents..could i ask a silly question..ive a mk 6 r reg yellow calypso..my roof is fine..but the rubber seal around the base has moved on the rear left quarter below the roof itself..& i cannot straighten it..it dosnt want to sit flush& is un even..just at this corner.. there sits a rubber seal.just above a small panel above the boot..its started to go rusty..& looks poor..i need to get this sprayed..& repaired..how do i remove it..as my painter told me the hood needs to come off & my windscreen rubber seal is knackered & has been siliconed & id like to replace my windscreen any way due to excessive stone chips can i buy a replacement windscreen seal as well?? cheers..& how do i add a picture of my car?? ta..jim..
