Guest rodge
When I was looking for mine, there was one on Auto Trader that had been Diesel converted, but in my opinin, it is sacrilige to do such a thing to a cabbie. Best of luck to you though, it'll be rare at least. Dave,

chaz
I have nothing against diesel conversions, but on an escort cab I am not too sure, make sure you get a real quiet one for when you have the roof down.
Guest mick20066
I had a mk4 cabby ten year ago with a 1.8 diesel in it was very quiet like! Anyway been out today and got me new lump its the 1.8 turbo diesel lump with the big intercooler on the top and my first problem iv came across is my 1.6 gear box wont marry up with the td lump but it did on my mk4 (standard flat diesel) many moons ago hmm think i need to go get the gear box i took off the td lump as well when i can get time but will that mean i need the td drive shafts and hubs??? I will keep yous updated it will be thursday the next day i get to look at it cheers!!

Guest vinnyvangough
So what are you gonna do with the fuel tank and lines? The drive shafts should be the same.
Guest mick20066
Right its took me about a week to do the conversion in between work and playing with me boat ha but its done! Its now a turbo diesel cabby with power steering as i said my first problem was the fly wheel being to big for the gearbox so had a look about for a standard 18 diesel fly wheel bolted it on with a new 18 standard diesel clutch and the petrol gearbox bolted strait up no problem the only thing i had to alter after this was the wiring for the relay for my heater plugs oh and i was asked about the tank and fuel lines i took the pump out of the tank and lengthened the pipe inside the tank to reach the bottom of the tank and used the same fuel lines just made them longer from the steel part of the pipes to re fit to diesel pump iv done a few short trips in it today everything seems fine but will find out tomorrow when i tax it and take it for a good run

Guest mick20066
how did the test drive go? power steering, lucky lucky lol Well well well the car has had a few hickups it kept boiling over but never had no pressure in the water system fitted a new cap to the water bottle and its sorted! The next problem i had was air in diesel lines and traced it back to being the standard ford diesel filter housing i was getting alot of air in the system from there needless to say diesel running back to the tank and crap starting on a morning iv fitted a new filter system and its all sorted ps i forgot how annoying these cars are for leaky roofs haha nothing like a damp leg when its raining haha never mind that is fixed as well, Think i will treat it to a new timing belt kit oh and a new re spray what colour do yous think graphite grey? deep purple? or red???? Its a mk5 black hood 16 inch focus wheels???
Guest Slo
hi i converted mine to 1.8 turbo diseasel and its fast as ..... the sucking in air problem as you put it I had it too and it turned into a bloody nightmare to suss, well it turned out to be the pushfit fuel connections as the petrol pump in the tank pushes the fuel out whereas the diesel pump sucks it out and the pushfits seem to only work 1 way. if you hit any snags I will prolly have hit them too, give us a shout if you need advice. slo
