Big F**K Up Or Bargain ???

Hi all, advice needed.

I own a K-reg MK5A XR3i (130) cabby.

I have just bought a N-reg cabby (no engine, no mot, but only done 43K miles so other stuff is probably OK,(shell looks rather good,) but its been stood doing nothing for 2 yrs since the engine blew )

BUT it has an immaculate mohair roof and a really good leather interior (the only 2 things letting my Mk5A down) and I reckon these alone are worth more than the 200 i've paid for the shed.

I am hoping that the roof and interior will fit my 5A cabby.

I dont know whether an N reg cab is a 5B or a 6. Does it make a difference? (how can I tell?) or will I have a problem getting the roof and seats to fit ????

Any advice as to if the bits I want to fit will fit is welcome.

cheers Dave

P.S. if anyone fancies a day fiddling about transplanting the roof (in east Lancs) then after I've got the roof, interior and tyres, we'll take anything else of value off it, put it on e-bay and go 50-50 on what we get for it.(could be profitable for someone who knows whats what.) note:- I'm an engineer, not a mechanic (I can manufacture cars, but not fix them LOL LOL)

Then I'll scrap the shell.

well you can tell by the headlights and indicators

mk5

mk5b both have the same

mk6 have a complete unit

but seats and roof should still fit

Front end look different, It has an oval grill and as mines an XR3i it has the indicators in the front spoiler not next to the headlights.

The rear lights look completely different. part of them SEEM to be part of the boot lid rather than just on the wings.

Happy to know that the bits I want should fit though.

the roof should fit fine,, but the seats might have issues,, not with fitting as such,, but the plastic trims for the runners might not fit so well,,

ive just done the reverse and put a mk5 seat set into a mk6,, and they just bolted in fine, but as i said the seat runner covers wouldnt fit, so have left em off,

if the seats look the same and you want the neatest fit possible might be better off swapping the foams and covers

I agree with the above, plus the roof will deffo fit on yours, the rear seats should bolt straight in but like others have said, the plastic trim bits could cause a problem on the front ones, and i cant remember if the airbag tensioner connectors are interchangeable, but you could always take your originals off your seats and try fixing them to your replacement ones.

I have Mk5 Recaro's bolted into my Mk6 using Fiesta 3.5 subframes. It looks a bit shit, but who really pays attention to what goes on under the seat?

Roof will fit fine, there's a guide that I made on here somewhere with pictures!

Finally come to the conclusion that its a MK6. It looks just like cabbytechs yellow one (i went to his web site and the front looks nothing like his blue Mk5B). Well to be honest it looks nothing like his yellow one either, for a start its red and never been moved for 18months so it 'looks' a bit of a shed, what I mean is its a MK6, it has the same RS side skirts and the high level brake light in the spoiler.

Anyway it arrives on Saturday and I'll start removing the roof and interior. All other bits are up for offers but I'll put that post in the right forum.
