Guest Soggyllama
Ok when my engine gets hot, my oil light comes on and stays on I've checked the oil level this morning and the levels are fine, in fact its just a smidge above the max marker on the dipstick. There is no oil in my engine bay anywhere where it shouldn't be (I.e its all IN the engine) the cap is a bit loose but secure, as in you really need the effort to pull it off, but it spins freely while sat. The various pipes seem clear . does anyone have any ideas why this is happening? I'm planning on a service soon, but would like to know why the light is on before servicing in case its a major problem. What other checks can I do to make sure its not going to a serious problem? Thanks
Guest Cabbytech
Hi, does the oil light go out straight away when you rev the engine ? if so it sounds like the oil sensor needs replacing as its gone faulty.
chaz
when it happened to mine it was the oil switch / sensor.
gingergman
bonus if it is just that as they are only a few quid to buy!
Guest KarlosG
If it goes out when you rev it then that points to low oil pressure, if a new switch doesnt sort it out then the engine needs a rebuild.... big ends/mains will be worn
