Guest mossop1
is it a mk4 escort and if it is dose it feel like it all the time even at tick over if so would go for engine mounts touching on the beam under the gearbox as ive seen em put back together wrong. Guest Cabbytech
It could be the engine mount on the drivers side that has passed its sell by date, try this, put car in 2nd gear, and try to set off and then stop again, see how much the gearstick moves, if it looks like it wants to jump out of the car then a mount is broken, if there is little movement then something else is amiss. Did you remove the ball joint to gain more room to remove the gearbox ? double check tightness of all nuts and bolts, plus did you put the clutch plate on the right way round ?
