Guest technoferret
A guy came in to work today in a very subtly modyfied MK5 escort van (RS 2000 alloys, leather MK6 seats and door cards, de-badged, lowered and a XR3i front end ) He came in with a sheet of 2mm aluminium and a zetec 2ltr head gasket and asked us if we will laser-cut the ali to match the head gasket WONDER WHAT HE'S PLANNING FOR HIS VAN - NOT. Guest murcus
gbgbgb what he has asked you to do, is make a decompression plate to alter the compression ratio, from say 11-1 to 9-1, as he must be planning to fit a turbo, these plates are only 30 pounds to buy from ebay, you can run them with out it, or by using 2 gaskets, or skimming the pistons, or replacing them, as long as you arent running stupid amounts of boost it isnt really needed, my punto gt 1.4 standard is 9-1 compression and spikes at 14 psi, i currently for the past 4 years have had it set at 17psi, i can run up to 21 psi on std turbo and pistons before something gives. if in the other hand he is just fitting it for the sake of fitting it, the car will become slower
Guest s11pyk
oh, i see. so unless running a big power turbo conversion its not worth it. lets hope he's after stupid boost!
