mickyfin32
ok right i try to explain my problem abit more clearer!!! problems im having back lights now fixed but appearing to be on the bright side but both sides work fine, all lights function accordingly. I started the car it run then i turned the ignition off but the car was still running....?? also along with this when i start the car(normaly) the rev counter only goes upto 3000 rpm then flickers back down when i give it some throttle, when idling it says 600rpm but when i turn the ignition off and the engine still remains running the rev counter is showing 1500 rpm at idle?? next problem the front lights n/s(passenger side) works fine side lights normal light full beam but o/s(driver side) only works on full beam?? all indicators on car work fine.... and my electric wing mirrors no longer work?? last problem the central locking works but only on o/s it will lock and unlock with no problems... on the n/s it will unlock but not lock every time i go to lock the car from this near side it locks but then straight away unlocks itself...four letter word guys Help""!!! Guest tacha_maree
what year /model is it? i cant really help you out much tbh but engine run on can be caused by preignition, its more likely to occur on carb engines and mfis. a engine running too hot can cause it as can a engine that is revving to high. you'll need to adjust your idle speed if possible and lower it. as for your electrical issues take a mulitmeter and do a continuity test, it will check the ohms and should indicate if there is faulty wiring which is the cause for the problems. dont know if that helps you any

Guest mikecurd
Where abouts are you? Im on south coast if you are not far off I can do it for a reasonable charge. From what you say my first check would be the alternator charging voltage and the draw on the battery and the battery condition. If these are both ok I would be looking for meddling such as fuses put into previously vacant slots or relays replaced with the wrong part or an earth wire inadvertently put to a live feed. As youve been playing with rear lights I would suggest temporarily unplugging these first and removing any wiring modifications youve done! I would be looking at electrics first as everything points to it as rev counter is working after you switch off. If you have patience and reasonable skills/tools/understanding of cars I can go through the diagnosis with you by PM until you have fixed it. Guest murcus
could be a few possibilities e.g pre- advanced ignition or icv, but i think you should check your ignition barrel, i recon that one of the wires there aint connected, or you could have faulty ignition barrel
mickyfin32
im south wales Cardiff lol battery is well had better days and i think alternator is dead as it doesn't charge battery the clocks worked previously so ignition could be another possibility... i have my day off so i will try to eliminate possibilities such as back lights and bad fuse if any.... also the relays whats the green one for??? under dash? as previously this burnt out and i had to replace wires from relay to fuse box no damaged to any other part of the wiring when this happened i was thinking this could be a factor??
