here is a few pictures of a 1986 d reg xr3i cab i managed to pick up 2months ago as a resto project. i have already started restoring it as you can probably tell with all the primer and filler.lol it needs a little welding on the drivers lower sill at the rear but hey thats my trade.phew!!! anyways whilst getting it ready some jealous t**t has pinched my full wiper arms and damaged my drivers door lock and ignition now trying to steal it,so it looks like i better hurry and get it finished before they wreck it totally. So any of you guys out there got a spare ignition and door barrel with key going i would be hugely grateful, don't mind paying for them (but they say free stuff is appreciated and remembered more)plus funds are running out so as cheap as poss if anybody can help as funds are running out and i need to try and find the rest of the money for a respray yet  Anyways i'll keep you posted on the progress i make with some more pics soon.

:msg2: started stripping it out today to get the recaros scrubbed clean, there must be 23 years of grime on them.i'll get a before and after shot of the passenger seat tomorrow when i do that one(soz people forgot to do that with the drivers one today).I'm not joking when i say it took 5 hours to clean just that one.the water was like a pitmans bath water after, yuk!managed to get the clock and interior light working too,as there was a bad short on the fuse,so re-wired that by cutting the wire at the fuse box and joining into the loom behind the dash where it goes up the A post as couldn't find the short anywhere. So left the dash apart as i'm looking for a set of white speedo and those clocks facias if anybody knows where i can get a set from cheap or free if anybody has a spare set they feel generous enough to help me out with.lol.

Anyway people will post a couple of pics up tomorrow of the seat cleaning. Will also let you know if i do anything else

Just found a before pic of the seat, will post an after one tomorrow as its dark now and can't get one

just started with the respray as the weather is fine for it today.decided to do a temporary job for now so i can get driving for the summer.lol as i'm taking it off the road and doing a total overhaul in autum or winter. As this is my first cab i'm getting impatient as never had the pleasure first time around when these cars were new of driving one. but hope you agree it looks 100% better than patchy primer.i've posted this pic now and will post my full days progress later on tonight.

Looking good mate.

Just a quick word of advice mate.

Try not to use newspaper for masking if your using solvent based paint as the paint can soak into the paper and the solvent can separate the ink from the paper leaving it on the car.

There's an old story about a guy who did a cracking job but used newspaper to mask. when it came time to demask he was left with a perfect pair of boobs from Page 3 on the adjacent panel!!!

Get some large dust sheets from B&Q £4.99 for 3 or you could even use bin liners!!!!

lo there m8, just wondering what u do when wet paint drips down the bin liners, i would use brown paper from most paint supplyers, but hey thats my choice, its your car m8

Never used bin liners before just a tip I was given. theroetically you'd use masking tape anywhere where actual paint hits from the gun, the dust sheets, similar to plastic masking wrap (which you can also get from most paint suppliers) which is static too so it sticks to the car, or binliners would just be used to protect the rest of the car from overspray, and overspray doesn't generally run.

The brown paper you mention is of course ideal by being specially coated on one side to prevent paint penetration but a lot of Diy'ers don't generally have access or knowledge of it or where to get it so I was just suggesting alternatives which are easy to get hold of.

allways find when you move them afterwards u get covered, proper way would b to strip it all out, but if u have to leave it in i used old blankets or sheets (cloth) from any charity shop or recycling place, oh and loads of water to keep dust down. :grouphug::grouphug::grouphug:

right not been able to do much recently as i've been snowed under with work, not to worry, more money to spend on the old girl.lol. any ways this is how far i have managed to get,not finished the respray yet, totally soaked my interior as had enough of washing the seats and having to do them again and again as the crap wouldn't come out so i got the steam cleaner and jet wash from the unit and yes i went mad,jet washed the seats and carpet on the driveway then steam cleaned any marks i could see that was left, took a week to dry out after using a wet vac on them.pmsl. anyway there mint now no marks and no dirty grubby stains. right then i was on ebay the other night and got an almost new black mohair roof, with all electrics and pump and rams as new, basically everything to convert to powerhood apart from the thermal cut out piece that connects to the plug on the loom and the switch housing thats on the end of the loom, got the switch but no housing to plug it into.can anybody help me out in purchaseing these parts? got to work out where the pump goes and where to wire it all up to,anybody got an idea or diagram?also got a pair of new back lights as mine had been tinted by some previous jerk and looked a mess, also bought an rs s2 bodykit with all covers and fixings,an original rs turbo bonnet( as i'd already bought the vents previously so needed the bonnet)thats got the badboy look the frown( a bit like me at the mo when i open the shed and see all these parts and think where to and how to start.lol.also got some white rs clocks now thanks to andyxr off here(thanks andy m8)anyway i've got a massive grin from ear to ear when i think about how she will look in the next few weeks.i'll start posting photos as and when i get time now to start putting these things together and making the old girl a new girl, but first things first the wiring etc for the hood,so please people help me out??????any way got all these things for the old girls new lease on life for a meer£170, a proper bargain when you consider what i got.the sooner i get the wiring info etc the sooner i can start putting her best dress on.will keep you posted guys
