Guest dee1orean
providing you key up the hammerite with 320grit or a red scotchbrite pad I don't see why it shouldn't stick as it says in the instructions above get rid of any shiney paint where you want the new paint to stick. Guest murcus
sorry if i went off a little, and i do understand, as ithink we have both been in the same learn to paint situations lol, ive used that krust loads but dont think it works, red oxide primer was the key to rust not returning, or acid etch primer as what they use to factory underseal cars Edited July 11, 2009 by murcus
Guest suffolk04
got the car back from the bodyshop, very pleased with the price (£350) happy with the paint finish, and the extra stone chip paint accross the sills(front to rear) and very happy with the time it took (1 week). the only thing i'm not so pleased about is the car itself, turns out it has had a bump sometime in its life, so the drivers side wing doesn't fully match up with the door, the gaps fine, but the folds/trim doesn't line up. other than that, i would recommend the bodyshop to anyone in the nottingham area. Pictures coming soon when/if the weather improves

Guest suffolk04
ok heres the drivers wing it doesn't look the best, but its better than before. last time the wing was level at the door, but raised at the front, so the bumper and lights didn't fit. Good news, cheers Just love hammered hammerite Even a hand painter as bad as me can get a good result .......... Didnt know that hammerite goes off, according to their website it is only good for 2 years after opening the tin, that would explain why i had so many problems with an old tin of smooth red recently, just thought u might like to know as it not mentioned anywhere else that i have seen

Guest suffolk04
wasn't getting on at you, just saying that it cost me £350 for wings welding/painting and re-under sealing. to get the wing lined up, it would probly need an inner wing and front slam panel. i know it would be worth it, but didnt have the monies. i'm either thinking about taking all the red strips off, or save the money and get the inner wing and slam panel done, would it be possible to reuse the outer wing again? Guest murcus
it looks to me, that when it was fitted sometimes replica wings can be a nightmare to fit ( as i could be wrong, but a ford would fit snug ) unlike most other wings that just bolt off, ford has to be the nightmare that tacked them you could ask him if he could try and amend it, as it sits too far down, as, he could cut the welds, from the inside of the wing, and the one from the bottom, without damaging the paint , its always worth asking sometime you open the door to fit them, but it knocks the alignment off, its an easy mistake to do,
RScab
Can you add a pic showing the full door & wing joint. Genuine Ford wings have the Ford Logo on them. do your wings have the logo? does the top wing & door line match?
Guest suffolk04
i'll try and get some picture up soon, so i need pictures of the inner door welds and the gap between wing and door? the wings are geniune ford, because i ordered them from ford, and were plasted in ford stickers. also forgot to add, with it being in a accident, the front bumper doesn't sit right either, maybe its time to run the car till next year, then sell, but that would be very last resort. Guest Cooderkey
If I read, learn, and inwardly digest this lesson, do I get an NVQ qualification now, or the equivalent of four GCSE's? I spent five years apprenticeship trying to become a mechanic and 55 years later I'm still learning. If they could have supplied me with such a simple breakdown like this one on bodywork, I could have saved myself five years, and told my boss that I should be on full pay instead of measly apprentices pay. Oh Bugger ! !
