Mk4 Escort Xr3i Going Turbo!

Hi! think it is time for me to make a project, here at the escort forum!

 

My name is Michael, i am 16 years old and live in Norway.. About a year ago i baught this beauty, a 1988 Ford Escort XR3i Cabriolet ...

Made myself a little bass box (is this the right name? :tongue: )

After a while enjoying it the engine broke down.. several of times.. :wacko: so i ended up with buying a kent cam set!

Since then i have got my self a job again, so i could afford to contineu with the uppgrades..

 

Got my self some new side markers, in the front, side and some new tail lights!!

I have this set of side skirts waiting for me in the garage now!

And i have ordered theese rims to!! 17"

Yesterday i baught a car that i am going to use as a spare part viechle, its an RS-Turbo cabriolet!! With Cosworth turbo, Cosworth fulerail, Haltech Engine Management System etc. Its suposed to take out between 230 - 250HP !! :biggrin::biggrin: The rof was new to! no rust at all!! :smile: I am really satisfied when i walked away from there :tongue: i dont think it was a bad thing to buy :tongue:

How does insurance work over there?

 

Because over here a 17 year old (i understand you are 16) trying to insure an XR3i let alone a turbo would be laughed at before having the phone put down on him. If they could find someone to insure them the quote would be ridiculously high.

 

Anyway, good luck with the project and keep us updated.

No, i can get an insure on the car, but it is ridiculously expensive! Therfore i have it on my dad, in return he uses the car some times :tongue:

I wil post some pictures of the new car in a few days!

awesome project i was thinking of turboing too, but the insurance turned me away lol, the wheels look wicked all the best. keep us updated.

To get this car legaly registrated, i need to use brakes from the RS-Turbo. What is the difference between the brakes on the XR3i and the RS-Turbo?

nice project mate and its cool to see someone young with a proepr car not some fiberlgass saxo make sure you keep the post up to date with loads of pics as for rs turbo brakes they are a tiny bit bigger be ebtter to go for cossiebrekas st170 brakes or even focs rs depends what your budget is

Better calipers and slightly larger disc's I think someone else can tell you exactly im sure.

Okey! Thanks, just had to be shure :wink: The car i just baught has bigger brakes in the front, but the disks are not bigger.. i have some Cosworth disks in the garage, but they are to large for my rims :tongue:

get the 17's on then then youll have laods of room be able to get some st170 300mm discs

one question, how much hp can the original RS-Turbo pistons deal with? where can i by new pistons, and how much wil this cost? dont want the engine to brake down :tongue: i think i wil take out around 200-220hp.. i dont need more.. yet.. :tongue: hehe

its been done 200 with standard internals as for rods and pistons jano @ oddkiddcreations is doin a good deal on pistons and rods for £600

hope you have the bit of plastic that goes at the back of the long side body kit.It goes behind connected to the car,when i did mine i got this to make it fit straight and true.It clicks onto ,looks better when done.

No i didnt get this :unsure: only got the parts that is shown at the pics there.. so you are saying that i miss some parts here? okey.. someone got some ideas how to fit them to tha car then? :tongue:

hi,mines rs turbo,but still building it 4yrs so far.Based on the 88 tropical turquoise (ghia)which is a rare cab color.Only did these on a 1988.need help ,need a diagram to show me how the hydro pipes connect to the electric roof pump and the rams.The kit is of a mk5 (my project is mk4)electric roof kit.Used this website for change of roof.Anyway the person has swapped the feed pipes for the fluid about.The photo's i have seen are not clear enough inc HAYNES.So any help or links..THANKS...

they arent genuine there like the 3 door cossie lookin kit that mcrallying sell so looks like you will have to stick them to the car you only get the plastic strip with the proepr s2 rs turbo kit
