Good find mate, do they do end caps too or will your old ones do ???

They just do the seals, my end caps will do for me as they are in good condition. But whoever had the car has had a go at fixing the seals themselves with a stanley knife and some gaffa tape :wow:

i recommend you to underseal your car after you've done the bodywork. you defo got a bargin thou. theres people on this site will give you advice. good luck on the car and becoming a dad.

How would you recommend undersealing it? I have heard a few people mentioning waxoyl?!? Would it be possible to underseal it myself (bearing in mind i cant get under the car that well in my drive) or will it need to be done by professionals (if so how much? as i will need to get saving)

Quick Update:

As some of you will be aware, I dislocated my toe a few weeks back so havent been able to do anything to the car. But today I had a spare hour or so and decided to give the engine a fire up as it hasnt been for a couple of weeks since before my toe. So connected the battery up, turned the immobiliser off and turned the key. Fired up straight away! Happy days! :banana_dance:

Hoping to get some of the bigger jobs done next weekend as need to do some welding and my dads the one who can do it, so got to wait for him to be free. Hopefully will have a better update next week. :pic:

Even more reason fro me to keep up with it. At this rate, the 4 on this site will be the only 4 left. You joining back in the Amethyst club steely? Managed to source one?

hmm, smooth rear bumper. would look good with the rs valance off. then just need to do the front one

It would look good, just got a replacement bumper, so cant get that one. Not keen on the rs valence! will just smooth the one i have and then get it done in the respray when i have that done next year.

Sounds good mate, cant wait til you share it. It is a shame i live so far from a lot of people. Got plenty of time over the winter tho so not gonna rush it. Not going to meal, dont have time at moment, doing quite a bit of overtime at work to make up hours i owe them before starting my new job in January, so all spare time in evening when its not light im spending with son. Only have saturdays to work on car at moment.

Got most of the update written, just need to upload pics and put it on when at parents next where camera and laptop permenantly stored, watch this space...

Right, it’s been a while since my last update and quite a bit has been done, I am having trouble with my camera so no pics at the moment so will get them up asap; I have now cut out the battery tray and rotten metal and welded in some new metal and the new battery tray.

I have swapped the passenger door from the rotten original to a replacement white one.

I have ordered 21metres of seal in the original shape as what was on costing me £53, There was a minimum order of £40 so had to get at least 20 metres and I have measured out I need just under 7 metres to replace driver’s side door and passenger side door. So if anyone wants to do there’s, PM me and we can talk about me selling the remaining seal once it arrives.

I am now looking for a replacement front panel, found one at this place and one on flea-bay. Am I right to assume that the Mk4 escort front end is standard across the types of cars and will fit my cabby?

I have also been doing some work on the minor rust on the bodywork; I removed the skirts to see if there was anything hidden behind these before making a start of grinding the surface rust off and applying a coat of primer, I have removed the rear lights to get at the rust underneath there and also made a start on the rust on the boot floor.

That’s my progress so far, next on the list is to replace the front panel, patch a couple of small holes in the floor and prime it before cleaning the interior to go back in. I also notice that arround the rear wheel arch the metal is corroded and looks like it will need rebuilding with filler? Any tips on this?

mk4 front panel is same for the mk4 escort cabby mate. if your rear wheel arch is corroded bad, then i'd slap a new rear arch on. its not a hard job to do. depends how much its corroded. if not too bad i'd grind out and rust cure it. then patch it before putting as fine a spread as possible. you don't want too much filler in there otherwise your have it lifting and falling out over time.

can't wait to see the pics chap. are you having the lot resprayed before you put it back together?

Cool, will get on with ordering the front panel, and will get a rear arch sorted as well as having a good look at it tonight its quite badly corroded so from sounds of it, it will be better to replace it.

Im planning on getting it resprayed some time in the new year once all the body work is sorted. Hoping to get it completely done for a full job. Just a case of saving for it, but keep on buying little bits here and there and thinking of other bits i want to replace but arent essential.
