Guest jonnyc
Hi all, i am just about to recieve a 90 spec front bumper for my mk4 cabby and i was wondering what i should do next. I am gonna get it resprayed and all but was thinking about the rest of the car, the strips along the bumpers back and front and also the side strips on the car....should i take them off or leave them on? Or just take the side strips off and leave the bumper strips on...? the reason i'm askin is because if i do decide to remove all the strips then i may as well get the front and back bumpers smoothed as well.? oh and btw my car is white with red strips and a blue hood. what do you guys recon any pics of urs would be most appreciated. Thanks Jonathan 'THis is with the current old 88spec bumper' Edited February 18, 2008 by jonnyc
Escort Cabriolet Club
I like your front bumper mate, I know most would say leave it as is but it will look great all smooth, take them bad boys off the side and smooth the bumpers, it will look great !!! Guest steelcabby
get an s2 skirt and arch kit and leave the strips on mate. or remove the lot. but i think the strips break it up abit to be honest. it dosen't suit the mk4 to be too smooth
escortcabrioletclub
well its your car so you need to like it , but for me the two tone cabs should have the strips on to brake up the paint coulors but single coulor cabs should have the strips remover and on white its a yes unless its mk3 with the rs stripes . but as said you need to be happy

Guest SG1
Taking them off is something I have toyed with for ages, but a guy at a body-shop told me to watch where I park it as you will see little dings etc from other car doors as you have nothing to stop `em. I think they look bit poo anyway lol I like the thought of `em gone,so I say go for it.

Guest Alanman
In my opinion its down to what side skirt (if any) you go for. 1. If you dont have skirts you need to keep em 2. If you go for the XR3i RS lowered skirts you need to keep em 3. If you go for the S2 RST arches then you need to get rid of them. I'd not bother smoothing the bumpers unless you're going for whole look with the bigger wheels and smooth look. I like either way for the bumper to be honest but its down to how far you want to go. ## my opinion ## Edited February 20, 2008 by Alanman
Guest steelcabby
i like the strips, but only in black, i kept mine on there and with the s2 arch kit i think they still go well. i had if resprayed and was toying with the idea for ages but decided it gave the car abit more charactor. i thought it would look too plain without anything in thos areas. it also depends on the style of wheel you get too. oh and i lost the front strip...lol here is mine without and here another mk4 with a different colour without the side strips but with the bumper strips. maybe these images will help :Banane20: If you compare the two,, in my eyes it seems like its missing that something that breaks the car up abit Edited February 20, 2008 by steelcabby

Guest steelcabby
some ford garages may still be able to get them, or they could still be in stock somewhere, otherwise ebay mate. i think you should get a front rs drop skirt for it mate. that will help to tone down the big mouth at the front, if you do ever get one tho, make sure its the one that flairs out and not in like the ones on the mk4 orions. Escort Cabriolet Club
Be carful buying second hand ones mate as if they are like others they have a metal strip in them which is a pain to get perfectly straight again !!!
