Guest Lee81
Had just the one go on the strip. Not the best of launch and got plenty of wheel spin. Also had boot full of cleaning stuff and all my tools which didn't help Got 5.28s Sorry for the poor quality. Blame the wife for that one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BhziomS2FwU Edited August 10, 2010 by Lee81
Guest Gregg
Take out the boot stuff next time and you may hit the 5 seconds. Surprised you had the roof down too but I really did like your engine bay mate. Good work!!!!!!!!
JMc
How hard and what was the work that went in to sticking a Cossie engine in your Cab? I saw a few of them at the show, and was especially impressed with the Mk II's that were drifting!
gingergman
nice mate, you should of done it with the roof up, would of knocked a bit of time off
Guest Lee81
I'm hoping the car will get into the mid fours or less with a good launch and no stuff in boot. Doubt the roof will have much effect on the times but it was a sunny day so got to make the most of it. JMc I didn't do the conversion myself but it is quite involved. If your not shit hot with a welder and have access to a bodyshops tool range leave it to the pro's. Basically 60% of the escort shell gets cut away including the whole engine bay, floor, boot area and turrets. It gets replaced by a shortned sierra chassis. SEVS in willenhall do the bodywork for £3000 and it takes them a full 5 weeks
JMc
Hi Lee - thanks for coming back to me. A friend talked about getting hold of a later Cabriolet and doing a similar thing with a floorpan from the Cossie and the body from a Cabriolet. The usual things stopped him from progressing it i.e. house, relationship and kids . I was however interested to see a number of cars at Fordfair with this conversion. I am interested in looking at alternatives to the Turbo route for a cabriolet although, like anything else, if you go to a good garage I am sure that the useable power increase and probably (more importantly) reliability are maintained. I assume that you do not have 4 wheel drive? Which if doing this conversion, you was able to get it, would give almost limitless options? Thanks, John I'm hoping the car will get into the mid fours or less with a good launch and no stuff in boot. Thanks, John Mines rwd but it used to be 4x4 when first built. I wish it still was. Its been completely reliable so far as essentially its everything the sierra cosworth has bar the shortned propshaft. Not sure what you mean by options of 4x4 but if it still was this car would be doing the 60 around the 3 second mark as the other converted cars do
JMc
That is seriously impressive and would be hilarious sat next to somebody in something supposedly more powerful at the lights, who was ragging the nuts off his car . A fair amount of work has gone in to the car then! Mines rwd but it used to be 4x4 when first built. I wish it still was.
