zetec is the way to go

well this all started in feb when i managed to locate a mk3 rs turbo gearbox with lsd so decided to totally refurb my old mk4 box and put the insides of the mk3 rs box in it. i had never done a gearbox so thought the challange would be good. i totally strip down the old box and sent it away to be blasted and painted when it returned i put all new bearings in the casing and striped the rs box down and replaced all the bearings on the shafts i then reassambled it all with new gaskets and seals.. it has since been sat in the garage waiting for the right day to do it but everytime it was nice (both days lol) i was busy and then i decided it was being done this weekend. i also fitted a lightened flywheel while i was at it just to pick the revs up a little quicker i did buy a new clutch but the one i took out was like new so refitted it and saved the other one for spare. here are some pictures of my work.

right i wonder if anyone knows what type of plastic these are made from i am lead to believe it polyurethane but not 100% sure and there are 3 different types of polyurethane i am about to repair a set and have the use of a plastic welder but need to know what filler rods to use. any help will be most welcome.

you can get one from a donnor car or fords or a pattern part but it must be from a zetec escort mk5 or 6

hi mate i'm not sure on the gearbox but if you have the 2.0ltr zetec you will need to change the sump and strainer for an escort one and also the water pump as they run in the opposite direction you will need to modify the engine mount and use the origanal alternator mount from the cvh i have the rs turbo gearbox on with the lsd i i had to change the flywheel and clutch both to the escort one from a zetec it just makes things easy with the gearbox mountings and drive shafts etc etc. if you need any more info just give me a shout. badger

does sound like the head gasket has gone this does normally happen if the car overheated when the pipe split and you lost all the water

no keep the fuel tank and lines from the mfi but will need ecu or twin carbs/throttle bodys to run on

i have that roof now as a spare but if you really need it i'm happy to come to some agrement and get it wrapped up and sent to you??

if you rub down and then use an etch primer first all will be ok..
