Guest music.pro
Hiya, Have a 88 XR3i. Bit of background, in last yr had new clutch, gearbox and exhaust. The fuel pump was noisy about 6 months ago and was checked, but was working perfectly, jst noisy for some reason. After a knocking in the engine bay 2 weeks ago had it checked and ended up with a new cam shaft, followers and belt. After taking it from the garage the idle speed was at 500rpm and would cut out if the electric power was used (ie lights etc). Also the engine seems to be mis-firing, but only at low revs (1000-1500rpm) and the engine seems to not want to go past 5000rpm, whereas before the problems the limiter was at about 6500rpm. Looking in the trusty Haynes manual has told me the revs is down to something called the EEC IV sensor and control unit, which 'can't be adjusted'. How true is that statement? Talking to a few people they think that the symptoms could all be down to chip settings being wrong because of the new cam. Is this likely to be the case? Or is it a combination of problems coming together? Alex

Alex if it was running ok b4 you took it into garage then take it back to them sounds like it could be timed wrong
Guest markeyboy
or it could be ur alternator not charging the battery, as above take it back to the person who did the work good luck m8

As for the cutting out when lights etc are on, thats sounds like the battery isn't getting charge........maybe the alternator belt hasn't been adjusted properly when the cam/belt was done? IE - its loose...slipping?? EEC IV sensor and control unit, thats EFI not K-Jetronic. SY
