Hi All! I have a Mk 5 1992 escort cabriolet XR3i with the Zetec engine installed but it just isn't quite fast enough and I need more power. I'm considering dropping in an RS Turbo engine but have no idea what work is required to fit one. Do they drop straight in, what mounts are required, what gearbox options are available to me?.... things like that. All information on this conversion is gladly welcomed, thanks in advance, :help:

Nick.

Why dont u 2.0ltr Zetec it..... with turbo.

Funny you should say that, I'm on with that project already but I just can't wait to get it finished and need to turbo my car this summer. So I've been out today and purchased myself an RS Turbo engine, gearbox, loom and all ancilaries barring intercooler and ECU. Just need to know exactly what i'm up against so i'm not messing around dropping it.

right...

fair bot of work but not impossible. 2l turbo is all well and good if you can afford the 5k of having it done right (do it cheap - do it twice)

v6, would be interesting but i'd assume that its a big heavy engine and i doubt it'd be cheap to have mounts etc made up. what figures is yours showing tony?

zetec to RST...

you'll need to find mk5/6cvh engine mounts (either from 1.4(mk6) or 1.6(mk5))

if you get the 1.4 mounts or the late mk5 mounts (found on the cabbys) then you can get the power steering bracket as well which help a load to keeping your PS. you'll also need an uprated fuel pump (cossie in tank jobbie is easiest)

with the right mounts it'll drop straight in. you can use your own gearbox for it as well (mtx75?) which means you'll be able to keep driveshafts/hubs the same.

you'll possibly need to have a few water pipes made up (or modified) just to ensure they go to the right places (as my car was a 1.6cvh previously it was pretty straight forward - zetec hoses go to different places) but that'd possibly be the only problem you'll have as far i can see.
