Morning everyone, hope the weather is better where you all are than here!

Have made a start on the stereo install in the cabby and was wondering if people had any suggestions. Have fitted my Kenwood dvd/screen unit in the standard place on the dash. Am now left with the lower part of the dash by the bas of the gearstick. I have a din sized hole here ( thinking gauges maybe? ) and then a half size which im guessing used to be the coin tray before the previous owner cut it out. Thinking of putting a switch panel in here for the amp, ps2 and anything else i find indoors to add!

Im thinking of mounting the ps2 in the glovebox by cutting it into the back and placing it at the top ( to leave some space underneath for storage! ) Is there anything big behind there before i start this process?

Also having a little bit of trouble with the boot as its a bit smaller than the last car which is making it a little tricky to fit the box for the 2 12" subs. Box does kind of fit in but wont slide all the way back  although it does give me space to mount the amp on the back of the box!

Main problem area is the rear speakers, the previous owner has cut out holes for 6x9s in the sides but to fit them they will need spacers. Trying to decide if it is worth the effort to build some and smooth them in or just try and source some standard replacement panels. Can you really hear that much from the back with the roof down?

Anyways, sorry for rambling on, just trying to cheer up and ignore the rain

Hiya BB,

A few people on here have moved their heater control panel and vents to in fromt of the gearstick, they fit perfectly (used to be a cassette holder) and opens up the 2 din hole for a monitor. There are some pictures on here somewhere.

I have found it very hard to balance the sound in the car, roof up or down, but I am still using original placements. I have spent some oney on the speakers, expensive pioneer co-axials in the footwells, only 10cm so not much volume there. Opened out the rears to 13cm and put pioneer components in there, with the tweeters sitting on the top firing forward. To be honest they might as well be sitting on the back seat, the panels are so open that they moved as much air firing back as they do forward, I was considering trying to cover the back, but as you have found out theres no rrom between speaker and roof arms.

Opposite happens with the bloody sub, metal top bottom, front and back means there is no real punch in the car, the sub is in a tin box and it sounds like it. Unfortunately I feel a pratt if I drive with the back seat down, but it sounds so much better when I do. Ooooh would recommend a remote for the sub's amp, especially if you make compilations, there is a fine line between f**k all, and rattling number plate.

having re-read this, realised I've been no help whatsoever, sorry. All in all sound is not bad, but in perspective cost twice as much and doesnt sound as good as my work car.
