Guest username
Has anyone here got experience of MK4/5 Fiestas, more specifically the heater/aircon and engine cooling fan setup? We've just got hold of a 51 plate 3dr with the 1.25 Zetec SE lump, bought cheap on the basis of the seller having been told the head gasket or a cylinder liner had failed. On delving into the thing We've ascertained that the motor is mechanically sound and the problem(s) are actually a failed heater valve causing the heater to stick on hot, and more significantly that the radiator cooling fan doesn't run at all. (got the gauge to just below the red yesterday with no sign of life, drove round the block and temperature came back to the middle within 500 yards) The fan also doesn't run on low speed with the air con running (AC does work) so I'm guessing the issue is likely a relay or resistor, wondering if anyone has had this issue and what the cure was for them, also the location of said relay and resistor? Going to post this on some other forums too but thought we may as well ask here too Cheers all.
Guest username
Scratch that, had a shufty earlier and it turned out the fan motor had failed. Managed to undo the peening and open the motor case for a look inside and the brushes had stuck from all the crud in there. One quick clean up and lube and the reassembled fan unit works perfectly, car refuses to even run hot now and aircon is loads better with a bit of airflow over the condenser. Heater valve is another matter and one I'll investigate in due course, sometimes sticks sometimes not. Anyway, back to cooling off in the shower now haha
Guest username
Heater valve problem hopefully sorted now too, thanks to a trip to our local "old skool" scrappy where we grabbed a couple of spare valves and a couple of heater controllers too in case that was the issue. Including those bits, a pair of manual mirrors, wheel trim and some bits for the 206 as well we came out only £25 lighter. If of interest to anyone, the yard is Northwich Metals (A. Vlies) ltd in Northwich CW9 6ES great place, been there since 1967 and still let you climb round the cars checking and grabbing bits for yourself, not to mention some interesting '80s stuff there like Sierras and Carltons.
