I purchased a German-built 1984 XR3i last year. It needs a windscreen though. Are they same for the hatchbacks and cabriolets?

My sticking point is I'm in the US, and also need to figure out if they are remotely the same as the US hatchbacks, and if not I need to find a company to ship one over here.

Thanks,

Diane

Can't see Fords making to different Bodies, panels may change a little, lights etc

so think they should be the same

Hard to say to be honest

My Ford parts software only covers Europe so I can't compare part numbers

I don't even know if the numbers would be the same between Ford America and Ford Europe. I can get the number Tuesday if you'd like to compare. I'm betting there's something in the number that gives a country designation.

Where did you get the software? I was looking for books awhile ago but I didn't try very hard.

There are a ton of little differences. I was going to buy some rear patch panels to repair my US car but even they looked different, the arch especially, which is what I needed. We're now going to use a front fender arch so I can't even compare them in hand now.

The mirrors are different as are the wipers. You get the folder and flip up ones. Our are all stationary. Headlights are completely different. Lots of suspension parts are different, but I did find the MK3/4 adjustable front control arms fit the US cars!

We have a flip open fuel filler door. Bumpers are huge over here. I need to sit in the car again and just look closely, but all my US ones are MK4 style and there were big differences between those models here.

I was going to cut a new key but not only are the blanks different, but our machines won't work! I can get Merkeur blanks but I may have to find an old Mercury dealer to cut it (unless our hand held cutters work). The keys are longer

And we never got the cool cabriolet.....

I downloaded the Ford Software (Microcat 2009) a few years back

works fine but you need to set the date back on ya PC for it to run

Do you have any pic's of ya car if so post a few, will help ID some parts

Escorts where also built in Brazil their car bodyshells look the same as the European model

Here's pix of the XR3i https://picasaweb.google.com/dianed143/XR3i?authuser=0&authkey=Gv1sRgCJCyhaWJu-fXzAE&feat=directlink

If you want a pic of something specific to compare to on the US, let me know and I'll run out and snap one. Visually it does look like the rear arches are slightly different.

The rear quarters are different from 81-85 and 85.5-88 here, but it seems the difference is in an attaching hole for the bumper and maybe a lower body line. Nothing you'd see with ground effects (all of mine are GTs)

I'll try to remember to look up windshields tomorrow.

Thanks!

Right, that's how ours are

1981-1990 are considered first generation but there are a few distinct splits in there:

1981-1985

1985.5-1988

1988.5-1990

All my US ones are in the 1985.5-1988 range. 85.5 as a pretty big upgrade for us, we got the 1.9L and 5 speeds

The windshield part number is E4FZ-5803100-A (or B, which may be for tinted)

This is the same for 1981-1990
