Restoring body pinstripes on Sunburst Red 1985 1600i Cabriolet. (the originals disappeared with a re-spray some time ago).

There was a twin two-colour pinstripe ending in a wavy line at the pointy end of the front wing. Can recall that one of the colours was turquoise, the other maybe silver (argent?)/whatever. The same design may well have been used, but with different coloured pinstripes for other Cabriolet body colours, blue, silver, etc.

Have not been able to reconstruct the exact design from memory. The guy who supplies the 1600i boot decals on Ebay will make this up if I can get a design or a sample to him.

  • Does anyone please have a Mk3 Cabriolet with the original stripes?
  • failing that, a photograph of a front wing complete with such a pinstripe?
  • any Ford part info to this?
  • Any other info?

Thanks.

Hi All,

Didn't expect such a quick response. Awesome. Thanks to both of you.

gingergman -This is a MASSIVE help. I have had my Mk3 since new, and this looks very similar to the original. If it's not the same it's pretty damn close - and it's exactly the kind of picture I need. Didn't know they were still doing these pinstripes on the later models. If I can just get the right colours for the Sunburst paint job I'll be there.

newbie - not sure what the stripes were like before I got mine, but by 1985 at least Karmann were using this or a very similar motif. If yours is not original and I get mine sorted, you will be welcome to use my pattern if you wish. No doubt the guy will be well fixed to create more once he has this.

Thanks, again, gingerman. I'm at least half way there now thanks to your post.

Anyone have a pic of the Sunburst stipes, please?
