welshlad
Had a starting problem with my car for a long time, new starter motor and battery fitted etc, and fitted new battery terminals, earth cable and cable lugs the other day that i bought from Demon Tweeks based in wrexham near me, the starting problem seems to be solved (3 x days of no problems ) but earlier today it wouldn't start as usual but not the usual low battery type of not starting but a intermittant no starter motor engaging type of not starting! like my wife has said and its happened more to her than me she thinks its the alarm as the LED flashes red so obv i/we lock and unlock the car with the fob and after a few times its ok and lets us start the car Anyone else had the same problem? Ive bought a new Toad Ai606 main brain module of ebay but dnt want to take the clocks out and open the steel security casing to replace it if i dnt have too as it may or may not be the alarm ? only other possibility is the ignition switch? perhaps thats faulty? Vincygav
Does it seem to happen when the car has gone after a run i.e. hot start problem; or lefts a few days without starting.
Guest Lee81
Most alarms have imobilsation in the following three ways. Fuel pump, Starter motor and ignition system. It can have only one of the following or all three. Toad Ai606 which is the same as I have has dual imobilisation. Fuel pump and ignition system as reccommended. But who ever fitted it can disable any system. This is done on early models with external relays ( most likly the fault you have if the alarm is to blame) On later models the relays are built into alarm. You'll need to trace the wiring from the ignition barrel back to see if you can find the relay. The starting issue you discribe are most likly poor connections on the starter. They need to be really clean i.e. wire brushed and sanded. Copper grease is ideal for putting on before doing them up tight. Easy way to tell if its connections or the starter itself is next time it wont start bridge the gap on the terminals with a screwdriver. If it starts its poor connections
welshlad
hi guys its intermitent and it hasnt done it all week i see what you mean lee about the two circuits etc i think the relays are built in (i have had it out of the casing to fit a dual stage micro sensor and had to melt the white connector on the board a little as the end would fit properly) its strange how it flashes constantly red when its not letting the starter get power, when otherwise its green, if it does it again i might just bite the bullet and swap it for the new main unit ive bought and i suppose the original one will be a good spare or i could ebay it etc
