Guest Tony8020
Hi all, I have heard varying reports as to whether you can modify an XR3I MK4 cabby to 3x3 seat belts. some say you can, some say you cant. I have had a seller of ford seatbelts tell me you can and his kit comes with supporting bolts etc. I have also seen a picture on google of someone's rear bench with 3x3 and I have also seen a mod with a harness. In my (amateur) mind I am thinking that if I can find an anchor point for the bolt over the shoulder that it should be reasonably straight forward, am I wrong? Thanks Tony

Guest Milkey
As you say the problem is finding an anchor point as there's obviously no rear roof pillar. I've never seen it done before and can't see how it can be done to be honest...
maido
his was modded using the back shelf thing, not sure how as was bought like that
Guest Lee81
You would have to fabricate a high up mounting. Around mid headrest height. It can be done and look ok. Be warned though if you get the height wrong. More importantly to low, it will compression a persons back in a collision doing more damage. I'd avoid the bother and if you want a safer system just get a suitable 4 point harness in the back. At least that way you know an improvement has been made
Guest Tony8020
how could you anchor a 4 point harness? is that fairly straight forward?

Guest Glenn65
Sorry for stealing the thread, I'm interested in this also. I have a mk3 and want to be able to put a child seat in the back and the lap strap just won't cut it. My daft question would be though with the 3 point standard seat belt how would it compress a spine? I always thought the ratchet only locked with the forward movement to stop the belt pulling out further, and as long as the belt crosses over the seat far enough to outside edge (without tightening in toward the centre of the seat) like most hatch backs it would be fine?? Does anyone have any photos of the rear belts in either a mk4 or 5 that has the 3x3 belts in the rear. For me it would only be to hold in a child seat, but would also like to ensure I had strong enough anchor points.
