Guest Dirtydog
Right when I got my mk5 cabby a few weeks ago I noticed it had a cheap crappy alarm fitted, something was obviously wrong with it as it was switched off and also disconnected from the battery. Also fitted was a 90's Motorola car phone system and a clifford immobiliser. I had some time spare the other day so decided to start taking out the phone and alarm. The phone kit came out with no problems, I traced the wires to where they were spliced into the loom and started to cut them out and tape up the exposed wires. All seemed to be going well until I tried to start the car and it wouldn't start. Dash lights would come on, fuel pump would prime and then nothing! A quick read of the handbook and it says that if the light next to the clock stays on for 20seconds there is a problem with the alarm/immobiliser. S I double checked that I hadn't cut anything I shouldn't have and all the wiring looks fine. Today I striped out the Clifford immobiliser again tracing and removing the wires one by one and reconnecting any wire that were cut during installation. Still wont start though. Lights, pump prime and then just a click when I turn the key to start. Anyone got any ideas? Is it possible to bypass the ford alarm system? Thanks, Adam
Guest Dirtydog
Ok, now its starting and running fine. Turned out to be a weak battery and knackered starter motor! Don't you just love the coincidence problems like that to get you scratching your head? Lol Any way, decent battery, new starter, new spark plugs and an air filter and its running ok now. Still getting the light next to the clock saying there's an alarm fault and now the electric roof isn't working either (could this be connected?) but it runs and drives now! Guest Dirtydog
Ah it's official, I'm a numpty! The reason the roof wouldn't work is because I had left the power lead off when I replaced the battery!
Vincygav
Some years ago my Orion did this when the sensor on the door lock switch as in the wrong position, it made the clock light just stay on permanent red,
