hey all

i no ive already put a post up about sender units but curiously went into ford today and got told they would need my chassis number before they could tell what fuel sender unit fits my car.

they wanted to know weather i had a fuel pump in the tank? i thought this was introduced to the efi engines????

im asking as if the fuel pump is in the tank its gonna cost £350 new for a sender unit but if pump isnt in tank(which is what im lead 2 believe) its gonna cost £60 new

would any one be able to shed any light on this?

thanks in advance

yea i guessed it was external, i told the guy it was mfi and he said well i would need ur chassis number, as there are about 6 different types with external pumps and 3 or 4 if internal, i told him it had an external pump and i guess he either didnt hear me or choose 2 ignore me. £60 quid aint that bad for a genuine part is it, that includes the part, im so glad i dont have the efi engine, fook that lmao.

also i asked about my abs light being on as a friend of a friend had quoted £100 to take my gearbox out to replace the abs sensor, that was apparently in the box,

i thought this a bit strange and have never known abs sensors/ rings to be in the gearbox but on the driveshafts, the guy at ford explained that it was infact a belt that came off the inner cv joint of the driveshaft and that the common problemm was that the belts snapped/stretched and thats where my first line of enquiry should be, how much of a bugger is this 2 cheack, can i get emily up on a ramp and unbolt the covers 2 have a look, or does all the driveshaft have to come out?

cheers

The ford guy was right, there are two belts that come off the drive shafts and in turn drive two small pumps. There is a sensor on the cover IIRC that has a yellow barrel shaped connector on the end of a fly lead. This is your ABS sensor, it is literally just checking that the belts have tension, which closes the contact of the switch.

To replace the belts it's a driveshaft out job, you should be able to see if they are there and check them from above.

If you just want to distinguish the light you can bridge the two pins in the connector on the loom. This will make the light perform as it should from the factory. Obviously get the belts sorted though.

Glad mine has no abs, it's very primitive in design and really restricts the breaking.
