Guest nice1 Posted September 17, 2012 Share Posted September 17, 2012 hi i have a 1990 xr3i efi cab, i got the car with the head gasket gone, when i got the car home i tried starting it but no joy so had the head gasket done with new valve stem seals and gaskets fitted in the head, its got a pipercross cam pulley fitted mechanic said may have an upgraded cam fitted but this has not been checked anyway after putting the car back together it started after a few turns but reved up on its own infact it reved flat out redline and stayed there for about 30 secs or so then the revs came down slowley but then idled between 1000 2000 up and down constantly. the mechanic said it souded like an idle control valve problem, so i cleaned the icv but still the same so i have replaced with 2 secondhand ones which i cleaned before fitting but still does the same i have also replaced 2 throttle position sensors with no joy have checked for air leaks aswell.
