First of all I will start by saying thank you foral being so helpful with all of my qeries, I now have quite an extensive shopping list for my car so if I ever get tired of shoes... ok it should come before the shoes but welcome to my world...

Anyway to the point MOT comming up and don't know whether anyone has a national garage they recommend...

Ontop of this does anyone know what common problems mine might have? I think that the break pads are worn differently on the sides and I might have a slow leak tyre :'( Are there any common problems i should brace myself for with an 1996 1.8 (think its a mk6/mk5)?

Again thank you sooo much for any help x

Trust, if your car had any of the common fault's mk5/6 'scort engines suffered from u'd know lol.

If there aren't any rattles, the engine's responsive and all the mot-able bits on the car work you could just be in for some new tires, new pads and if your old 1's are worn unevenly brake bleeding

Not to sure what you should do about a garage/mechanic, tend to stay away from those national firms as any firm is only as good as it's staff, a mate of mine's a mechanic, has has own small garage and was Ford tech for 7 years so obviously i go to him when i get stuck.

Ask the friends and family near you, i'm sure one of them will be able to recommend a good, reasonably priced garage in your area :0

All the best, el

Thank you for your help... I know 2 mechanics but one works at a bmw garage, and the other never actually takes it to his garage... :/ so I don't see the point, and the other has quoted me £150

As for the engine sometimes the whole car will start vibrating :/ which does concern me, because that's what my old car use to do I think I'm going to drop it into it's MOT early at the beginning of May.

And there's a garage up the road and last time they got 800 out of me :'( and there not national... :@

I'd be looking @ engine/gearbox mounts, easy job tbh

As for the uneven brake wear - I'd be checking for sticky caliper pistons

Putting the car in early for mot is a good way of finding out what you need to do to get it passed so go for it, that way you'll have time to see what you should be paying for the work that needs to be done
