Guest Bullfighter
Hi, i just came over a fine roofcover for my mk4 cab, but there is a small problem. On the cover there are 2 hooks that should be fasten too the roff in some loops and i dont have anywere to do this. In the instruktion book of the car there is a pic of the loops where the hooks should be fasten, but i dont have any loops on my car. I wounder if any of you cab owners have a pic from your cars that shows these loops so i can see how it should look like. Perhaps it is possible too make these loops by your self. Sorry for my english, but i hope you understand. It is a mk4 1988 XR3I white vinylroof.
Admin Paul Posted January 21, 2012 Admin Share Posted January 21, 2012 Some cheap aftermarket replacement hoods do not have the loops for fastening the cover too, we have seen this problem before :-( I'm afraid you will have to try and make some or replace the roof!! Guest Lee81
The loops never come attached to the hood they come separate. You can buy these for a couple of quid off ebay. They need to be threaded onto the rear hood retaining cable. line them up with the seams of each side and then retighten the cable. I'd advise you buy a new cable at the same time as these cables break very easy even when new doing this
Guest Bullfighter
Thank you, the roof is the origianal roof, so it must been delivered without the loops then.
gingergman
seen these loops on ebay before, listed for a mk1 vw golf cabrio, same thing! and cost about 2 quid.
Guest Bullfighter
Is it difficult to fit à new cable? Do i have to take the hood off the car ?
Guest Lee81
No you don't have to take the hood off the car. Just release the inner hood lining around the rear parcel shelf. Once done you can gain access to the bolts for the cable. Undo them and remove the cable. Thread loops on on. Reinstall the cable and align them with the seams. You may need some lube and Blunt scaper to push the cable back into place as it is then slowly tightened. Putting the cable back in all the way is a nightmare. I've only seen one person get it back in place and thats gingergman so ask him for some tips on the final stage.
gingergman
yeah that cable is a right sod to get back in all the way, ive seen so many that are wrong, i used a flat head screwdriver with a cloth on to push on and up at the same time, it took two of us to do it aswell. its a bit of trial and error with tighting the cable at the ends while puting the cable under the lip, over tight and it wont go under, also try and get it round even! hope this makes scence (beer lol)
