right so my mk3 1.6 is slowly dying and im on the hunt for a new engine and on glorious ebay ive found an rs t lump but its looks like a 1.8 sierra engine ! the chap has listed it as a 1.6 but would a 1.8 rocker cover fit a 1.6 ??? im rather interested in this as its not too far from me and would be nice if it was a 1.8 lol

what does everyone think ?

Dunno about that one mate but that engine looks different to all the rst cvs engines I've seen. The oil filler cap is on the wrong side and looks like it hasn't got a metering unit? ( which isn't a bad thing ) lol it could be a 1.8 but I don't think ford made one so could be a 1.6 modified bigger pistons etc? Or did ford make an American 1.8 cvh? As everything in america is bigger lol also there a few other differences from a standard rst engine. Hope this helps Mate lol

sierra 1.8 cvh lookes identical - if you search google for a sierra 1.8 engine or 1.8 cvh you will see, it looks rights as the exhaust manifold goes towards the pass side and th rocker cover with the oil cap where it is looks right - if this is a 1.8 cvh i would have thought it would be better than a 1.6 . still though , im going to have to speak to my insurance in the morning as 1500 a year with this engine is crazy!

Yep my mistake I see the metering unit now, only it hasnt got a filter on?? To be honest mate you could go for this engine however I would think it would be more hasstle than its worth, It may be running right now but if something goes wrong in future?? Who would fix it?? As it is not an off the shelf engine and looks like bits have been fabricated to fit.

Althoguh I could be wrong lol

If I was in your situation I would either get a standard engine fitted, maybe a few little mods. Or get a proper Escort RS turbo engine fitted, parts are relatively cheap, although they are getting on a bit now so you will prob need to rebuild one if you want reliability. Then if you do its expensive and they are quite temperamental (my two were) lol

Thanks,

Kev

Seen that engine before its been for sale for the last 2 years by various people. Assume once bought they then find out theres a problem or its to much hassle to fit

well i took peoples advice and didnt bid on her - going on the sounds of it maybeits a good thing. anyway i have found a company that are selling a brandnew uprateded rebuilt cvh 1.6 engine with no ancilleries . 500 quid or nearest offer. i think thst if i keep it original under the bonnet it will be better and 'corect' so im probably goingto get this , once i get it i will have to get a few new items to go on her but will have to get some pics of this up if i do it :-)
