Guest baz9707
I have a 1990 ford escort cabriolet mk4 with a cvh mfi 1.6 engine. It had a oil leak and then on the motorway doing 80mph the warning light came on and cut out and for a while started and sounded terrible but did not move now it will not start at all. Do I need a new engine.
gingergman
did it drain all the oil? does it turn over now?
Guest avul
have u topped it bak up wiv oil? if u ave no oil or low oil then the tappets will ave no oil in them which means the valve's will not open wen the cam turns, so wont allow gas's in & out of the engine, meanin it wont b able 2 start. as wiv runnin out then it could b terminal & u may have killed it!! check the oil level & top up wiv 10/40 oil, if it turns over but still not start's then get sum1 2 tow u at bout 30mph & put it in2 2nd wiv the ignition turned on & c if it will start, wiv the engine turnin over faster it should fill the tappets up & may start. if it does & it doesn't sound 2 bad sort the oil leak out & c how it goes 4 a while. if not then it could b the top end, but it may b more likely the bottem end as the oil level has run that low, if the oil light comes on then often its 2 late but u can b lucky!!! b'in an older engine is better then a newer engine 2 get away wiv this sort of prob, gd luck & keep us posted regards mark
Guest baz9707
Hi well could not get the engine going and after being on so many exercises recently had no time to do anything. Exept go to Stoke and get a engine complete with gear box and a load of spares for 60 quid. Same 1.6 as the one thats in it, and have just started cleaning it up ready to put in. Currently just took the sump and gear box of and giving them a good scrub and a coat of heat resistant red paint.
Guest El87cabi
Like your thinking, there's nothing better if you own a cabi than to have spares, lots of them! all the best, el
Guest baz9707
As to spraying the engine block red anyone any thoughts about this so far sprayed the sump and a few bits and bobs but not the main block. Anyone else done this.
