Guest Tatty Taylor
Have got large leak from cooling system which i believe could be water pump or hose, problem is i cant be sure which it is as i cannot see the pump(mark 6 1997 ghia 1800 zetec),is there an easy way finding out or is it a case of timing belt cover off to have a look.Any advice would be a help.Is the water pump normally an issue on this model???? Thanks Mark :(
gingergman
the water pump does like to go on them. is it noisy? if its leaking from under the cambelt cover then yes id say water pump. whip the cover off and have a look, if your lucky it might be the pipe, had one go on my old mk6 tin top, pain!! Guest avul
no probs tayler yea keep us posted m8 & i hope it is only a pipe cos it'l b a lot easier 4 ya if it is the pump then u'l need 2 c if u can borrow a cam shaft lockin tool & u'l need a new rocker cover gasket, if u r doin it ya self just check & check again that the timing is spot on, u'l need the lockin tool 2 lock the cams as u have 2 undo the tork bolts 4 the cam shaft pulley wheel's as these need 2 b loose wen the cambelt is tightened & u'l need 2 lock the crank shaft aswell & thats why the pulley bolts need 2 b undone, sounds a big job but its not that bad really, wen every then is tightened up all u need 2 do is put the lockin tools bak in 2 make sure its all lined up after u turn the engine over by hand, take out the spark plugs 2 turn it over easier, but leave then down in the hole's so u dont drop sumthin down by mistake, hope this helps, cars hey regards mark
Guest Tatty Taylor
Thanks for all the advice... I am pretty sure it is the water pump all hoses seem ok and i managed to borrow a long handled small mirror so that i could see the water pump weep hole and it seems to be dripping(not as bad as it was though )Have bought pump off ebay (£25.00) and intend to tackle the job at the weekend(with assistance from my very very nice mate the mechanic). Once again thanks for all the advice---Brilliant!!! Cheers Mark(Tatty Taylor) :D
