Thx for looking peeps

Is it possible to fit a pair of 6x9's in the rear of a mk5 cabby?

If not how do you remove the rear speakers?

Cheers in advance

Rear speakers for a 5. There are 2 ways to do it, the right way and my way.

The right way is to remove the quarter panel cards (see feebles roof change guide for detailed instructions on removal of cards). Essentially, remove base of rear seat and fiddle with screws in card.

My way: I just gently prised out the grills (very gently) and ripped the speakers out. Refitting is reverse but you may need to glue the grills back on if you knackered the clips when you removed them.

You can fit 6x9's but you'll need to cut and use mounts.

I did mine with a tiny thinner than thin flathead.

Here's mine as a visual aid:

And finished...

If memory serves, think clockface. 11 & 1, 5 & 7, they don't appear overly important, but they are there just under the lip of the outer ring. One side of mine ended up being glued back on as they all fell behind the door card but looks fine. Just means next time I have to take the card off.

The other side I pulled the grill mount off really slowly and kept 3 attached to it when it came out and 1 stayed on the card.

Basically, if it goes wrong and the silly little clips drop, then just a little glue does the same job.

Have fun.

Hi again mate,

I just took off the grill on one side and got to the speaker, however there is no screws visible to undo to get the speaker out??

They are the standard speakers

They're just glued in. There is probably a small indent somewhere on the surround (I think), just put a flathead driver into the gap and force it out. When you put new speakers in, the screws provided will be self tapping into the plastic mount. Odds are, your new speakers will bend where the screw holes (in the speaker) are. Don't worry, they'll hold.

Can't remember if it was front, back, or both but you MAY need to take a stanley knife or similar to the pod to shave it down a bit to make your new ones fit. Just needs a bit of the lip taking off.

If memory serves, theres glue and thats it. You should get about 6 inches os speaker wire to play with as well.
