badger
hi people i seam to be having trouble with my clutch pedal rachet system i fitted an uprated clutch to my mk4 zetec conversion last summer and everything was great (even done 1000 mile trip and 3 laps of nurenburgring) but after winter hibernation it seams to be not working right so i changed the cable for a new one and the pedal takes up the slack by clicking 1 tooth but whilst driving it seams to slip back resulting in me having to double clutch everytime..... has anyone had this problem or know of any fix's

Guest Lee81
The plastic red bushes wear on the pedal causing the ratchet to to slip also. Especially on uprated clutchs
Guest suffolk04
have you tried putting a plastic sump washer on the gearbox fork? worked for me. I just heard that changing the ratchet is a nightmare, so went for the quick fix

Guest avul
hi ian just bin 2 ave a look at the peddle assemble & if there's anough room 2 slide the pivet shaft out 2wards the heater matrix then it should only just b a bit fiddly!!!! 2 take out the the pivet shaft there is a circlip on the inside of the assemble 2 the right, this 1 will b the hard 1 to get out! the shaft will only slide out 2 the right... on the shaft u ave the circlip, the body assemble, nylon spacer, clutch peddle wiv ratchet assemble in the middle, nylon spacer, spring washer, metal spacer, spring washer, nylon washer, brake peddle, nylon washer, circlip (this wil b the trickie 1), peddle assemble. u'l ave 2 slide out the shaft 2 drop the clutch out, but this will also drop the brake peddle, there is a small circlip on the brake servo shaft witch will need 2 b taken off. as mine is all out of the car i cant remember if there is anough room 2 slide the shaft out. but if there isn't then it will b alot more wrk as u'l need 2 take out the whole brake assemble!! 4 this there r 2 10mm bolt's on the inside of the bulkhead & 2 on the outside of the bulkhead, 2 10mm bolt's right up behind the dash (could b 13mm), & u'l need 2 take off the steerin column, hope u dont need 2 do this, but if u do, take off all the electric's, ie indicator's ect, & 2 13mm nut's ( need a deep socket 4 these 2) & 2 13mm bolt's up underneath the steerin column & it will just slide up & off the bolt's the shaft will not slide out the other way as it has a cut out in it which is a bugger!!!!! hope this all help's m8? regards mark

badger
well as promised I'd report back the car is up and running on Friday i striped the clutch pedal down and all was fine (which was a good thing as the replacement segment i brought was wrong). so after much swearing and a lot of huffing and puffing i put it all back together (what a job). so i decided that today the clutch was coming out so i stripped the gearbox off and there it was a broken clutch release bearing it was totally fubar so i dropped the uprated clutch out and put back the standard rs turbo clutch. replaced everything back to where it needs to be,tightend it all up and took it for a small test run. long test run tomorrow up to Weston with Avril (must remember to take recovery details just in case lol).
