Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone can help, I have an escort dash cabby and my dashboard lights stopped working yesterday on the instrument cluster.

I have looked to see if there is a brightness dial (my old 306 had one to turn up and down brightness) to no avail.

GingerGman had a very quick look (so be it in the dark) and all seems ok fuse wise etc....)

Any ideas on whats next to check - all other electrics seem fine.

Thanks

Simon

hi SimonLo ...

ok 1st off, is it all the lot or just the clocks part ......

try the arm that turns it off and on, coz i got same car, that has probs with the lights arm if you get it and do it on and off hard it works, so give that a try, and if it is that, good luck on getting the arm tho, i cant as yet.......hope this helps

Turn the lights on and go to the back of the car. Are the rear lights working and the numberplate lamp?

Chances are you will find that they will not be. If so, you need to change the indicator/wiper stalk.

When the stalk goes on the sidelight circuit, you lose the following:

front side lights

dash light

numberplate lamp

rear lights

fog lights

lights-on buzzer

radio dimmer

These are all controlled by that circuit, and I have repaired more than I can remember.

i know they all work ok on it, the only thing was a brake light out. i believe its just the dash lights from when i had a quick gander at it!

worth pulling the clocks out?

It would be very unusual for just the clock dash illumination bulbs to blow, especially together. You can pull the dash clocks out and check for +12V on the illumination feed wire to the clocks to confirm.

I had a ganders yesterday and the 30 amp (fuse 9) looked a little bent - replaced this and all lights now behaving.

Oh and G the lappie is done.
