MarineIguana
This is the stuff I was recommended http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Leather-and-Vinyl-Repair-Glue-Liquid-Stitch-Kit-/190515665898?pt=UK_Crafts_Cardmaking_Scrapbooking_Glue_Tape_EH&hash=item2c5b9e5bea
Guest Savage
I used cloth tape (like Duct tape but black) in exactly the same place you're on about. Problem was that when the hood raised or fell, the tension on the tape was too much and it moved. Kept the seal watertight but needed to be re-applied every time I used the hood. Apparantly "liquid Stitch" is quite good but I've never tried it personally.
