Guest BrillPhady
I have fitted a new battery, new HT leads, new dizzy cap and a new ignition coil but now I dont have a spark coming from the coil. This tells me that the problem lies with the ignition switch. I havent checked that yet but I really could do with some advice here. Im pretty sure its a 1.6 CVH engine and It has a carburettor. It says on the new ignition coil DO NOT FIT THIS COIL TO IGNITION SYSTEMS FITTED WITH CONTACT BREAKERS. Does my engine have an electronic ignition system? Pretty sure it's right but need to double check. Also and again to double check, the firing order is 1,3,4,2? Any help will be much appreciated. Cheers, Phil. Chris
Have you cranked it witj the king lead attached to visably see a spark?..the new coil is all ok as is firing order, have you checked the little black box onto of the dizzy (forgot its bloomin name grr!)as these san give the same symptons.. there easy enough to get hold of

Do you mean the amplifier? I took it apart and everything seems to be in order but if there is no spark coming from the coil then the problem lies before the spark gets to the distributor. Chris
Amplifier, thats the kiddy, Try the new coil and see as they do give out after a while
Guest BrillPhady
Already fitted the coil but still no spark.
iansoutham
Already fitted the coil but still no spark. Have you got +12V to the black wire on the coil when the ignition is turned on?
Guest BrillPhady
Yep. 12v. I have also changed the distributor now but still no joy. There is an immobilizer that has been disconnected and bipassed. Im thinking it could be something to do with that or a problem with the fuel intake but I have poured fuel directly into the carburettor and still no joy. Grrr ... Guest tony.rose
Hi, I have the same set up and I think you should have another look at the immobiliser. Everything else sounds OK, but the immobiliser will prevent the current and you will not get any spark.
iansoutham
Double-check the immobiliser but I don't think that will be your problem. As you have 12V to the coil on the black lead the problem lies the other side (assuming you connected the black lead to the coil positive). To check, with the ignition on, earth the negative side of the coil with a spark plug attached to the coil and it should spark. If it does, either the distributor/amplifier module is dead or you have a bad/broken connection.
Guest shaun
1st Was the car running before you changed any thing? If it was then try the following..... I would check the wire's going to the coil as i have found in the past they snap were they join the rubber boot's at the coil. Also you can run a wire from battery live( + ) to + side of coil and see if it will start and if it does then the wire going to the coil is broke they break when removing them... Good luck

It was disconnected and bipassed when I got the car 8 years ago. Any ideas how to check it?

Good luck The car was going then was left for a while in the damp and cold when I went on holiday. When I eventually tried it the battery was dead. I then changed the battery and it cranked but wouldnt start. I cleaned all the connections and one had rusted away so I replaced the HTs, then the dizzy cap, then checked the spark plugs, rotor arm, amplifier and then replaced the ignition coil. I put fuel in the carburettor then messed with the immobilizer eventually I got a spark then randomly and frustratingly it went again just like that. Guest BrillPhady
I have now replaced the distributor. Shall I attach jump leads to battery positive and positive on the coil?
Guest tony.rose
I think iansoutham is right, i missed the bit about power to the coil, ignor what I said as it only confuses the issue, sorry m8!!!
