gingergman
you cant get them in black, you could get one made from a coach trimmers but would no doubt be expensive, or try vinyl dye, tenner off ebay. mk4 only came in grey and white. Ive found them for the Mk5 in Black but only in grey & white for the Mk4 - Does anyone know if you can get the cover in Black ?? ?? When i got my tonneau with the car it was a tatty grey colour with a couple of oil marks on it, i couldn't get rid of the oil marks so i decided to try and dye it, i used a black shoe cream and a small sponge,2 tubs and 5no coats later and i had a shiny black tonneau cover that looks alot better than the grey one. all for the price of £
Guest Alanman
Where do you get this shoe cream from??? Or this dye off eBay, how does that work?? Is it leather dye or vinyl dye I need to search for? Oh my! So many questions. lol

gingergman
it looks ok, i like things to be perfect tho so i wont be using it as im not 100% happy lol. sides and back are ok, just the big section in the middle that is a bit patchy, just like using a paint rattle can. looks well in the shade but in direct sunlight it shows its flaws. need to try a cream or something to get more of a even aplication on it. how did yours come out alanman? Guest keegy
Doesn't look too bad, but i know what you mean about the big panel showing the flaws, try the shoe cream you get a much better application, you can get it from theshoelace.co.uk heres the link http://www.theshoelace.co.uk/acatalog/Shoe_Polish.html?gclid=CJCSnNS74qcCFQMjfAodkHBI-g Its £2.99 a jar, the 5th item down, you may need a few jars and a few coats to get it right, you don't have anything to lose if you are not going to use it anyway. Good luck
Guest keegy
Or you can get one made from these people in black or most other colours, link below http://www.prestigeautotrim.co.uk/acatalog/Ford_Escort_Cabriolet_1983-91_Mk3_4_Hood_Covers.html They are not cheap though!!!!!!!!!! Guest Ryan_Wales
Cheers for the link - its tempting to get a blck one but its just weighing up the expense with the amount of use it will actually get !! I was tempted to try and dye mine but im not to sure that I could do a decent enough job - id probably end up balls'in it up !!
