hi all. i duno if im just looking for faults on my cabby but im guessing the gearbox aint suppose to make a whirring noise? its not megga loud but it seams to do it when your gearing down to approach a roundabout or junction......ideas? i aint checked the gearbox oil as yet...... just hope its not fooked. :unsure:

hi Dave

Could possibly be the thrust bearing does the noise stop when you dip the clutch pedal? if so then in all posibility it will be the bearing.

most reputable mechanics will change these when you have the clutch replaced when was it last done? if you had changed check how long ago it was done you may still have warranty if not check the history you have when it was last done before you write off the gearbox, good luck.

cheers fella.i duno when the clutch was last done although i think it was replaced recently by the last owner.as the biting point is quite low.i dont think its the thrust bearing though as its not noisy.only seams to do it when your gearing down. :rolleyes: mite just be me picking faults lol.probs needs some gearbox oil :convertible:

if its fine and still making a whine noise then id be concerned about the box, they do last ages with a whine tho, and will just get louder with more use. if it is the box you will find that it always does it at the same revs as the time before in that gear. mine always done it in 3rd at a certain speed.

 

i wouldnt worry about it till it gets very noisey
