Guest fasteddy
Got a couple of probs with my 1.8 si. not sure if they are related or not. 1st problem is it wont always idle properly i have cleaned the idle valve out and checked its working and it moves about 1-2mm from closed to open. is this right? the other problem is 3 times in the last month it just wont start, it turns over but wont start but if i bump start it, it starts straight away. i dont know if its a coincidence or not but the 3 times it wouldnt start it has been after its been driven then left for just a short time i.e popping into a shop. Any help would be most appreciated
Guest Lee81
Might be a sensor such as temperature sender to ecu or the one near the intake filter. That would cause a hot starting problem. would also cause the idle valve to not function correctly as it thinks the engine and air is at the wrong tempature. Diagnotic equipement would pin point this by looking at sensor values and any fault codes that have probably been triggered

Paul Grainger
Sounds like a dodgey Crank position sensor to me, they can do just this after switching off for ten mins or so. It could also effect the idle speed as it monitors each power stroke speed to check for missfire and adjusts fueling accordingly. Good luck
