Locking Wheel Nut Issue

Hi guys, I've been refurbing the wheels on the scummer Mk5, and 3 of them now look awesome in white against the purple shell. However, the last wheel doesn't want to come off. I've got a locking wheel nut on there, but it seems like it must be a different fitment to the other 3. How do I get the wheel off damage free without the correct attachment? any clues? or is this going to cost money and a visit to national tyres or similar?

Thanks

It depends on what sort of locking nut it is. if it's a Mcgard type one it'll be a bitch to remove. But with most other types all you will need to do it find a multi toothed socket that is just to small to fit over the bolt and smack it on with a hammer (being careful no to hit the wheel) then loosen it with a breaker bar. Most locking nuts can be removed this way without damage to the wheel, it will knacker the bolt and possibly a few sockets but the alternative it getting the bolt drilled out which will cost you a fair bit and doesn't guarantee no damage to the wheel. If you can post a pic of the wheel nut it would make it easier to point you in the right direction.

smash a socket over it,

whacking a socket over the top works but it depends on the type of head thats on the bolt........ i had to do this before.

Cheers Varnie, Im thinking whack a socket over the top is the way to go.

How's your rim refurb coming along?

very slowly  The mrs had a tumour operation last week so I've been playing nurse (in a non sexy way).

They are all prepped I just need to spray them and then re-polish them.

oh and thanks for the bday pm
