I have wired up the rear fogs to the mk6 switch following wiring instructions found on net and basicly the fogs only stay lit if i hold the switch in - my first thaught was the switch is faulty so i tried 2 others and still had the same problem. Any idea? relay? Wrong wiring? come on guys need this to get MOT'd and on the road !!!

There is a tutorial on this site about doing this conversion. It was written by Paul who should be able to help you, unfortunatly I am pretty sure he is one of the ones who have gone to the show in Holland this weekend. Try PM'ing him later in the week.

ok MOT failed due to this... so I am pretty sure the wiring is right - even the mot tester seems to think its relay related soooo... any ideas? where is the rear fog relay? is it the same as a mark 6 one as i can find loads of mark 6 escorts but no mark 5's in the local scrappies.

Lets see if i can help you, I take it you have used the mk6 wiring and switch, if so you should have the following wires from the switch, according to the haynes manual on the mk5 and mk6 the rear foglamp doesnt have a relay but the front ones do due to the power rating of the lamps.

a violet one, this connects to fuse 1 in the mk6 fusebox, and becomes live when the dip headlamps are on, on a mk5 the equivalent would be a grey wire to fuse 8..

a violet/yellow on a mk6 to the rear foglamp, equivalent on the mk5 is grey/yellow wire.

a violet/orange on the mk6, now this one goes to fuse 11 on a mk6 and keeps the foglamps on once the ignition is switched on, the mk5 from what i can see doesnt seem to have this facility, so what did you connect this wire to ? i would try it on an ignition controlled live on the mk5,

a black wire, this connects to earth, on the mk5 this wire would be brown and connected to earth.

That should do it, let me know how you get on,
