Hey folks,

Once again my good luck has landed and my car seems to be spewing water from the expansion tank.

The problem began about a month ago, whilst driving I noticed lots of steam coming from the engine bay so i stopped to find water coming from below the engine bay.

I assumed it was the thermostat so i removed it and cut it to allow it to be permanently open. No problems.

I have bought a new thermostat from a local garage (non genuine) but brand new and packaged and I have fitted it today but with problems.

When hot, the expansion tank overflows and the water leaks out quite rapidly.

Anyone got any ideas?

My initial thoughts are either the new thermostat is a dud or that I have an air lock.

Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hey,

The fans within the car is pumping hot air as expected. The radiator fan comes on as expected.

The weird thing is, the engine doesn't really get that hot before spewing water out. It was about mid way on the gauge and the car was just left to tick over for about 15-20 minutes.

I have serveral old thermostats and not of them seemed to open when placed in hot water - any ideas what the opening temperature would be?

Thanks

Andy.
