gingergman
to be honest i dont know, someone else should, but i would think it would need one to pass the emmissions test on the mot??

gingergman
if you ever replace the engine then chances are for the age of your cab you will replace it with an engine of the same era, unless you do a mega engine conversion lol
RobMk4TwinCarb
Im pretty sure it goes by the age of the car not the engine in it so you can put a '96 2.0 zetec in for example and wont need a cat. Im only pretty sure not 100% though.
Guest RelaxedDiver
its by what ever is older, ie. the engine or the car chassis from what i remember this site confirms it http://www.motuk.co.uk/manual_730.htm

Paul Grainger
Just to clear up any confussion This only applies to vehicles of a certain year that had a cat fitted as standard equipment. So if you were to fitt a '97 16v engine you will still not need one. The MOT contains different rules for different year cars, applicable to yours is a visual inspecton for smoke and a ges test to make sure the exhaust gas contains not more than 4.5% carbon monoxide.
