hi guys, i recently bought a 1996 escort cabriolet 1.8 si. 2 days after owning her and she has developed a problem

had to put a new battery on because the old one wasn't holding charge and would die on me in the middle of town, since then she has developed an idling issue.

the car starts first time now but will start then die, or start idle erratically then die or idle around 1000 but has misfire, if i rev the engine then the misfire disappears but becomes apparent again at around 1000 rpm.

i can still drive her but sat in traffic sometimes with revs going up and then falling, sometimes dieing, took her out on open road and opened her up abit and she goes like a rocket, its just this idling issue.

i have replaced: spark plugs, Ht leads, idle control valve, throttle position sensor. ran something through the fuel to clean the injectors, took her to the local garage and they put diagnostics on, it came up with 1

unknown fault? they cleared the ecu but its still misbehaving.

next step is replacing the coil pack, but is there anything else i could do if this doesnt work?

ill be very grateful if anyone has any suggestions.

sounds like ya MAF's playing up... located just on the intacke..unplug it and see if it makes any diffrence to how the car runs..

IIRC! if it makes no diffrence then its bust..as its not regulating the air supply.it should cut out or change idle rate..its.effectivly like running a carb with the air filter pan off..
