Guest Ash
I've recently bought a 1997 Escort cab. Now that the weather's warmed up and the windows and roof are coming down, I've noticed a strange grinding noise that occurs just over 3000 rpm irrespective of speed or gear. This happens when travelling or stationary in neutral. I've been underneath the car and it seems to be coming from the bottom of the engine. Has any one else experienced this - is it a known issue? thanks Ash

Guest Lee81
I had a similar noise on my escort Gti some years back. Turned out to be the CAT heatshield which had become loose. Was resonating making a grinding noise when engine speed was quite high. Dunno if its the same prob though. Failing that would look at cam belt covers etc.
