Guest Vulpine
thats good the previous owner added something to each tank. Are all CVH engines lead free then?
Chris
All cvh's were lead free after 84 if i rememeber right (when they launched the mk4 escort).. some folk add an octain booster or such but tnh given the age of the engine your not going to notice any huge performance diffrence
Guest shaun
Hi Jon all cvh's were stamped on the back of the head with a letter or number can remember which but it was by no 1 inlet port. That's all it was stamped for was to say it had harder valve seats and could take unleaded. The earlier escort's had to have timing moved a few degree's to run on unleaded...hope this help's
Guest Vulpine
well, have checked my head and here is the detail: head code: 86SM6090 - Lean burn head on post 1986 carb. engined models. no sign of 'LGP' above exhaust port #1 I can apparently run on unleaded as according to this website: The Almost Official Ford Escort XR3i Web Site "In the case of the CVH engines, Ford Technical told me that all CVH engines made after January 1985 had hardened valve seats so can run happily on unleaded." However other sites say that it has to be 88 or later. But, since, even more sites say that any aluminium head engine can run on unleaded fine (excluding aggressively tuned engs) I think I will go for no additives any way.
