i was thinking of cutting out the rot, fibre glassing the filler neck onto the body then putting the locking filler neck on, problem is that filler cap is for a vw i cant find one for a escort

go to any local parts place and they should be able to get them. i had to get one for mine cost £10 i think, maybe less.

as for the rot, mine went the night before it's mot, i had to hold the filer neck from under the wheel arch, and remove the cap(siezed on) I just held the filer neck in place, and used fibre glass to bridge the gap. 1 year on, and its still fine, but looks abit of a mess with the cap off.

I'd check that fuel cap will be okay for what you're planning. That ring just looks like a shiny trim and if it is then that cap will be made to fit a VW neck, and will NOT fit to your Ford neck.

I'd go for the body shop otion to repair it back to standard OR go full hog and get a propper Mocal cap and filler neck. The Mocal stuff will cost you about £120, a little more than the cap you've seen but it will do the right job.

if you are going to so much trouble then put a flap over the fuel filler. it looks amazing on a mk4, seen it in this months fast ford. a guy with an rst. so subtle but sooooo right!
