Been reading alot on this topic and still cant come to a conclusion, 99% of all forums talk about using mk1 2.0l "silver top zetec engine. But every now and again somebody tells me that theve used the black top mk2 zetec engine. finding either of these engines with fairly low miles is not a problem but as the mk1 silver top is a little rarer than the black top and the mk1 also suffers from "sticky valves" leading me to believe the mk2 is a better choice. any comments or advice is appriciated. cheers.

really need help with this one guys and girls, im so tempted to get the black top zetec engine and HOPE it fits with no major work. i know the silver top zetec is pretty straight forward to fit in mk4, but i need to know how much different the black top is to fit, pretty sure the sump, water pump & flywheel still need to be changed to 1.8 zetec, but what about manifolds, ecu wiring and engine mounts, are they the same?, c'mon people any help or tips appreciated, bigmadrab1. :grouphug:

Don't quote me on it but what I assumed was that everyone uses the early silver tops because they don't have pats. I assume this is something to do with the immobiliser but don't take my word for it,

cheers mk4stu, i heard that even some silver tops have pats and so either way i would need the transponder unit (key and reader coil). im just worried that theres something im missing like manifolds not lining up etc etc. more investigation needed me thinks, still thanks for the reply.
