my mk4 efi has been sat outside untouched for about 2 weeks, went to her today and after a sluggish crank she fired into life!!!!

she was quite smoky, blue and black and very tappy. i need to give the old girl some attention come pay day so what do i need?

my list so far is....

engine flush

coolant flush

oil

anti freeze

tappets

rocker gasket

(air and fuel filter were replaced a few weeks ago)

oil filter

plugs

while im at it the temp gauge dont work so il be replacing the sender. which one do i need?

what else do i want to be doing for this health check?

i want to sort the running out perfect cos the body is nearly perfect and the inside only a little damp lol

its due its mot now too so im sure thats gonna throw some costs my way so the cambelts staying for now

also i have a whiney noise and the engine feels loose/jumpy possibly som mounts need attention. oh and the clutch bites about 1cm upo from the floor

bloody bargains for ya lol!

just change the the oil and filter before looking at tappets, might not be anything wrong with them, and when you say engine/coolant flush, i hope you dont mean additives :punish:

whats wrong with additives? the cars clearly had a hard time engine wise. water is brown!! and the oil needs doing its black as foook!

its very very tappy. like very tappy. the oil doesn't seem to get to the filler cap!

problem with engine flushs is it turns all the old oil/dirt in your engine to sludge, which gets whipped around the pump and could cause more damage than good. same with the coolant flush things, what i did on mine when i first brought it was drain it, then fill up with cheap oil and run the car up until its red hot then drain and replace with good oil and filter

Maybe not red hot, but definetly agree.
