Guest Maull
Hi, Thanks for looking at this. I have a Mk6 1.8. The heater has stopped working, the coolant level is fine and the gauge says the engine is hot enough but im not getting any heat from the blowers. Others have suggested the heater matrix but i havent got a clue what it is or where it is. Can someone help me??? Thanks, Tom.
Guest suffolk04
its a little radiator behind the dashboard. could be blocked, but would of thought it would get a little warm after running for a while.

Guest Maull
Hi, Thanks for your help here. Im a novice trying to learn from you experts. The heaters work just no heat. The problem could be that i have an air lock in the cooling system. Does anyone know how to bleed the system? Ive been out in the cold and dark for an hour and cant figure it out. PLEASE HELP lol. Tom.

LeeMcCarthy
Have you tried to flush it throu?
Guest Maull
Yes, i think thats what the problem is. I flushed the radiator today and think i have an air lock as its making a banging noise now.
LeeMcCarthy
Banging noise from the cooling system i take it? Did you have the engine running afterwards?
Guest shaun
there will be 2 pipes which go around the back of the engine to the bulkhead into the car....the cables are which opperate the flaps which sends heat through turn heater knobs and look under the dash to see if they move
Guest Maull
Ok, i will check the pipes and cabes first thing tommorow. Been at it for 3 hours now and im soaking wet and freezing cold. I started the car after the top up to check the fluid level and see if its cooling the engine, theres a clanking/banging noise coming from the rad now. Ive had a good look and cant find a bleed valve anywhere near the rad or on any of the pipes going to and from it. Im really stuck with this. Guest mossop1
If you have got a banging niose in the rad that sounds like thier is someone in thier trying to get out lol then you have an air lock but most fords are self bleeding as sujested you could try taking the exspansion tank ie bottle you put water in and lifting above the engine with the pipes conected and run it for abit as the air should move to the highest piont failing that you could try filling the cooling system through the top hose from the rad and if that dont do trick i would sujest getting a mate round that is good with cars as air locks can be a right pain in the arse to clear and if left can cause all sorts of problems.hope that helps. Guest suffolk04
agree with mossop, take the expansion tanks cap off, put heating inside car on hot and speed 2, and rev the engine. This should force the air out the top, but keep an eye on the level
Guest Maull
Ahhh, I tried that, left the cap off and turned the heater on and gave it a few revs. There was water erupting from the tank so i stopped. Should i just keep it going until it stops spurting out?
Admin Paul Posted January 22, 2010 Admin Share Posted January 22, 2010 Yes sounds like its air trapped. The only problems ever with Matrix are when they leak water all over your carpet you might need to flush the coolent. Take one of the pipes off the rad and put hose pipe in one end and watch the clean water come out the other end. Dont forget tho you will loose antifreeze Paul
Guest Maull
Well today im going to get a haynes manual and follow their instructions. Ive tried everything now and theres still air in there.
Guest mossop1
im now starting to wounder if the head gasket may be gone as that would give you simaler problems and could acount for the matrix gowing in the first place just a thought anyway hope you get this sorted and let us know how you get on.
